SRC 001 SIDEQUEST is a fusion of visual, musical and written expressions reflecting on our intricate relation to side-questing. As a term mainly used in video game context to describe "a quest given to the player that has no direct bearing on the main story/campaign of the game", outside of it, side-questing could refer to the hobbies, passion projects or amateur interests one can carry in time-consuming activities different from their 9-to-5 work.
The project originates with the curation of Avocado’s 10-page comic pamphlet, navigating his inner thoughts on the all-utilitarian aspect of our lives: the inevitable search for direction, the pressure of procrastinating our work to the point of failure, the intricate division between belonging in a pre-existing system or starting a side-quest revolution. Acting as the comic's soundtrack, SIDEQUEST mixtape starts with the whispering words taken from Avocado Ibuprofen's 9th strip litany. Collaborating with non-music artist / designer Virgile Flores on the mix was a purposeful decision to elaborate on the recurrent why all graphic designers wants to be DJs? interrogation.
